3 Moves to Reset Your Physical Energy
Practice your rituals for optimal natural health
Rejuvenating Nourishing Rituals for Abundant Health and Wealth
Your natural positive state of being is joy with an energized and flexible physical state. When fear or pain disrupts your natural state, you automatically attempt to return to that state, but modern culture’s constant stress makes it harder. Then you tell yourself you “should” have more healthy habits, which triggers resistance.
I invite you to reframe the way you speak about creating positive healthy habits to enjoy an energized and flexible physical state. Instead of saying, “I should have good self-care habits”, try saying, “I love my rejuvenating nourishing rituals, and I deserve them!” Do you feel the difference? What would you love? Create your own rituals to rejuvenate and nourish your mental, emotional and physical health. You deserve a little RNR!
Create rejuvenating nourishing rituals that you love to provide you with a mental reboot, a social reconnect and a physical reset. My previous blog, 3 Purposes of Rejuvenating Nourishing Rituals, provided an overview of those 3 purposes. The last two blogs focused on the mental reboot and the social reconnect. This blog will focus on the physical reset.
Physical Reset - Rejuvenate
Finally, we’ll focus on ways you can rejuvenate your physical body. Resetting your environment can also rejuvenate you physically. As a reminder, the key is not to create a list of “shoulds”, but to ask yourself what you would love your life to include. What rejuvenating nourishing rituals would you love to create? Create them! Give yourself that gift; you deserve it!
Instead of trying to force things to happen in a way you think they are “supposed to” happen, open to receive intuitive insights. Be more receptive to your intuition by maintaining a high energetic vibration - love, peace, joy - and by sending positive vibrations to others in your life. Keeping your physical body healthy and physically engaging with nature reset your positive energetic vibration, making you more ready when opportunities come your way.
Movement Invites Intuition
The first stress to release is the thought that you have to “figure it out”. Allow your ideas to come to you gently and naturally. For example, if you think you should join a gym or take a yoga class, you’ll feel resistance by telling yourself you “should” do it, and you might also be paralyzed by too many choices, such as taking yoga, pilates or tai chi, not to mention which of numerous cardio and resistance training options.
Take a deep breath and ask yourself what kind of movement would feel good right now? Listen to your body. Do you feel like taking a walk? Do you feel like you need to stretch after sitting too long at the computer? If you have a lot of stress, maybe you feel like doing something even more physical, like tennis, swimming or basketball. Keep it simple. Narrow your choices. Truly listen to what your body wants and honor it. Your movement will reset your energy by flooding your system with feel-good hormones as well as strengthening your muscles, assisting cell regeneration and numerous healthy functions to energize your body.
Movement gives you the added benefit of relaxing your mind and shifting your emotions toward positive ones. Focusing on your physical movement distracts your conscious mind, allowing your subconscious to naturally generate ideas and answers to your questions. The more relaxed your mind is, the easier you can retrieve your creative ideas and solutions.
I often invite clients to set an intention before falling asleep that will prime your subconscious to answer your question or solve your problem while asleep. You can use the same idea to invite your subconscious to work during focused movement. You can assure your conscious mind that you will not try to force it to figure things out. Then invite your intuition and/or your subconscious mind to play with ideas and to share them with you when you are finished with your movement, or whenever your subconscious mind/intuition has finished playing with ideas and is ready to share.
Love Expanded Vibration
Love yourself by taking some time to quietly center in any way that energizes you. Many people set aside an hour a day for meditation. If this appeals to you, then give yourself that gift. Many others may not want to sit still for an hour to meditate. Some use a walking meditation or hold a fidget toy to help them focus. When you consider the full range of intelligences, you can imagine how many different ways people can achieve the same effect of calming their thoughts, emotions and physical stress by resetting for at least a few minutes.
I invite you to play with different ways to quiet your mind to assist your physical reset. Whether or not you have a 20 minute to an hour longer meditation ritual, I invite you to create your own rejuvenating nourishing ritual to destress for a few minutes anytime your stress is physically noticeable throughout the day. You can intentionally destress at regular meals and breaks. You could set a timer to periodically move throughout the day. When you practice resetting your state, you will notice when you’ve begun to shift too far and can use your ritual to destress and reset as soon as you notice.
A simple way to expand your energetic vibration is to literally expand your arms up, out and back to open your chest back up after sitting at a computer or any other activity that encourages you to contract into a smaller space. Think of a power pose that helps you expand your energetic vibration.
Other people can feel your energy. Imagine walking into a room where two people are sitting without saying a word. You can feel the energy of the room as soon as you walk in. There can be enough tension that you could “cut it with a knife” or you feel light and upbeat. Others can feel your energy the same way.
If you feel yourself tensing up before a meeting or a presentation, I invite you to send positive energy to the other people you expect to meet or speak to. Imagine the meeting or presentation to produce the positive connection that you are aiming for. Feel into that vibration and send love or warm regards to all the people you will be with, and know that your positive energy will be felt by them. This positive energy will also expand your own energetic state and provide you a physical reset.
Energizing Your Body
Notice how you feel when you drink plenty of water versus drinking caffeinated beverages or alcoholic beverages. Notice which foods make you feel energized or lethargic. Which foods give you indigestion or make you feel bloated? Consciously choose how much you want to consume of those foods and drinks, if any. Honor your body by treating it well. Your food and drink energize you or deplete your energy, so choose wisely as often as possible.
Moving frequently throughout the day provides an energizing boost. The term for all the energy you expend on all activities other than eating, sleeping and sports-like or formal exercise is NEAT - Non-Exercise Activities Thermogenesis. Think of all the steps you take moving around your home or grocery shopping. Gardening, laundry, cooking and many other daily activities add up to an important cumulative impact on your physical wellbeing. While we know that a sedentary lifestyle is not healthy, we also know that moving throughout the day can be more impactful to our health than going to the gym a few times a week. “Use it or lose it” is an appropriate slogan here. Muscles that aren’t used begin to atrophy.
Lots of people are coming up with ways of increasing their NEAT, such as using a standing desk. Pacing while talking on the phone is an oldie but goodie. Instead of being a couch potato, you could put a stationary bike in front of the tv. Instead of meeting friends for drinks, meet them for a walk in a park or to stroll your “market street” downtown.
You get to decide what type of movement you would love to include in your rejuvenating nourishing rituals. What feels good to you and provides an energy boost? Add them to existing habits or crowd out ones you would like to change.
Other ways to optimize your physical health for more energy include getting optimal sleep, nutrition and hydration on a regular basis. Again it’s important to create rejuvenating nourishing rituals that you love so you will feel good and you’ll do them with ease. Enjoy your physical reset!
